There were no injuries in the Thanksgiving Day fire on the second floor of the St. Aug gym.  Damage to the second floor and roof are not considered major. The area has been under construction, but the official cause of the blaze remains undetermined.

Jon Baptiste from the Class of 2004 has racked up a total of eleven Grammy Nominations this year alone.  His nominations include best album and best record of the year.  This Purple Knight won an Oscar for best original score for the movie "Soul" earlier this year.

Now 3

A total of three of our classmates have now individually initiated scholarship/endowments for deserving students to attend St. Aug.  Each has done so quietly requesting no publicity.  These three are in addition to our annual scholarship/endowment campaign as a class.
The three are a tribute to the commitment of the Class of 1965 to give back to our alma mater.  It is also a definitive indication of the loyalty and appreciation every 1965 alumnus has for the work St. Augustine High School does to transform young boys into Purple Knights--- men of faith, character, and competence.

Gov. Edwards

Our classmate Richard Winder was appointed by Governor John Bel Edwards to the Louisiana Housing Corporation.  Richard now represents the state's 5th Congressional District on that board. He currently resides in Monroe, Louisiana with his wife Dr. Janice Harrington Winder. Richard is a native of New Orleans, graduated from Xavier University, and got his masters in social work from Tulane University. He has the credentials of a well
establsihed real estate broker involved in numerous volunteer projects in northeast Louisiana.

Leonrd F. Augustine Jr. has passed away and the St. Aug family now mourns the loss of a giant.  He was a life-long contributor to our alma mater.   Mr. Augustine was a member of St. Augustine's first graduating class in 1955. He returned to St. Aug to teach English in 1959 and would later become the founder, moderartor, and coach of the St. Aug Speech and Debate Team.  During his 33 years as coach, St. Aug's Speech and Debate team became another force that added to our school's winning tradition. The Purple Knights often dominated the competition.  An examination of St. Augustine's trophy case reveals more Speech and Debate  trophies than any other sport or activity combined, thanks to the dedication and commitment of Leonard Augustine.
Thank you Mr. Augustine.  May you rest in peace.
