Dear Class of 1965,

I want to thank you for the amazing chance you gave me last year. I was so excited to start my second year at St. Augustine High School! I volunteered at St. Peter Claver Catholic School’s summer camp teaching first grade. Volunteering at the camp allowed me to share my talent and passion as a drummer with my class. During my second year the scholarship gave me the opportunity to experience the Marching 100’s first ever trip out of the country to Canada. I would have never gotten that chance if it were not for you the Class of 1965 and scholarship program. This scholarship allowed me to focus on my academics and maintain a grade point average of 3.4. Thanks to the scholarship, I no longer had to worry about my mother having enough finances to cover my tuition allowing me to focus on my studies and not be worried about my family breaking down. I am so glad to be part of the St. Augustine High School legacy because it encourages me to better myself as a person. Some miss this very important point of the school, which I am grateful for recognizing. Thanks to the support of the school and the hard work of the baseball players and coaches. The St. Augustine high school baseball team made it to the quarterfinals of the playoffs for the first time in school history. I played on varsity as a catcher, pitcher, first baseman and third baseman. In my own opinion, I think we can make it all the way to the championship if we work hard and be continue our commitment. I believe in the St. Augustine’s dream to educate young black men and present with an opportunity to get into college. With the help of the Class of 1965 I can continue this amazing chance to become an educated black man in this society. Thank you again for all that you have done, I wish you the best and hope to see you in the future around the school.

Thank You,

Kabrel Johnson
